Royal Tunbridge Wells is a highly regarded town in the county of Kent. T Wells, as it is affectionately known by locals, has excellent shopping facilities, which attract visitors, including to the well-known Pantiles shopping centre. Tunbridge Wells is also a respected location for industry and trades, especially for restaurants, hotels and retail outlets. The 'royal' prefix was awarded to the town in 1909, thanks to its popularity with the royal family from the 1600s onwards, attracted to health remedies in the spa waters at Chalybeate Spring. The 'royal' status was given just two decades after T Wells was also given a borough status. Royal Tunbridge Wells is an affluent town with a friendly community, who are passionate about the local area.
Famous folk abound in Tunbridge Wells and there are too many to list. Here's a few, from the past and also still with us: deadpan comedian, Jo Brand; fellow comedian, Bob Mortimer; actress Louise Jameson; Eastenders actor, Nigel Harman; cricketer and former England captain, David Gower; controversial musician, the late Sid Vicious; footballer and former member of the 1966 World Cup England winning team, George Cohen; tennis champion, Virginia Wade; and Air Chief Marshal Lord Dowding who did such a marvellous job overseeing the victory of the RAF over the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain.
Tunbridge Wells, or rather Royal Tunbridge Wells as it is properly called, rests on a hard sandstone ridge, which goes from Surrey to Sussex to Hampshire to Kent and when it comes to T Wells, it's located at the northern part of the High Weald. The geology is revealed in the fascinating sandstone, which can be found at High Rocks, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and Wellington Rocks. Also within the Langton Green quarries from which sandstone was hewn to build houses in the town. Tunbridge Wells is also where the River Teise starts and it is located at the top of a valley, which winds its way down through to Groombridge. The River Medway also has a tributary in one of the streams in this valley.
Culture in Royal Tunbridge Wells is enriching and nowhere is this more prevalent than in the countless literary references in the town. Charles Dickens has children finding a mug in his Bleak House novel, gifted as a 'Present from Tunbridge Wells'. Lawrence of Arabia, the film epic by David Lean, has Dr Dryden commenting, 'On the whole, I wish I'd stayed in Tunbridge Wells'. Even James Bond gives a literary nod to T Wells with his ill fated wife Tracy Di Vicenzo planning to live as 'Mr and Mrs James Bond of Acacia Avenue, Tunbridge Wells' in Ian Fleming's On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Other references abound in other works - Conan Doyle's The Valley of Fear, E.M. Forster's A Room with a View, Zadie Smith's White Teeth, among others. Perhaps the best mooted point of approval for the town comes from H.G. Wells in Christina Albert's Father: 'Tunbridge Wells is Tunbridge Wells, and there is nothing really like it upon our planet."
The Arts scene in Tunbridge Wells is fantastic and local residents are able to see a great variety of shows and events, thanks to the Assembly Hall, located in Crescent Road. The hall is able to cater for an impressively large number of people - 1,020 capacity, for live shows. Jason Dorman, bassist from post hardcore collective Joeyfat, runs The Forum with 250 seats for live music. Trinity Arts Centre is another Arts venue in the town and Trinity Theatre Club, well-respected in Kent, is based at the venue.
Tunbridge Wells has a thriving local economy with a splendid range of retail facilites, catering for tourists, alongside an array of hotels, restaurants and cafes. Two major shopping hubs are considered to be The Pantiles and Royal Victoria Place Shopping Centre. The NHS is another influential employer and there is a robust general finance and business sector. Tunbridge Wells is also a gateway for commuters not only coming into the town but also to access locations such as Brighton, Crawley, Hastings and London. Employment levels are high in T Wells and the town is a centre of work for people right across the counties of Kent and Sussex.
Tunbridge Wells is famous for a lot of cultural landmarks and of the many pleasant sites, the water towers stand out. The buildings, on Langton Road in Langton Green within the borough of T Wells, and also Pembury Road, have evoked a sense of mystery for many years. South East Water owns the towers and land. The Pembury Road site, erected in the 1950s period, is no longer in use but its counterpart in Langton Green village is functional. The former stopped working at the end of the 1990s due to advances in technology. Langton Green's structure stores 550,000 litres and it's 20 metres tall.

Competent Person Registration Scheme - HETAS
The installation, replacement or any alteration to the position of a solid fuel combustion appliance (wood burning stove) is subject by law to building regulations. Competent person schemes were introduced by the Government in 2002 to allow individuals to self-certify that their work complies with these regulations; as an efficient alternative to notifying the local authority or using an approved inspector. I am part of such a scheme - see below - which gives customers reassurance that my work is legally compliant.
HETAS is the official body recognised by the Government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services including the registration of competent installers and servicing businesses. To achieve this objective, HETAS operates a registration scheme that supports installers and businesses involved in this area to work safely, efficiently and within the various regulations which apply to the work involved.
TLC Liners and Stoves is HETAS registered and, after commissioning your wood burning stove, a certificate will be issued.
