TLC Stoves and Liners

Southborough town is in th Tunbridge Wells district in Kent. It is also a civil parish and within the High Weald of Outstanding Natural Beauty, north of T Wells. Southborough’s name stems from the period of the Norman Conquest when it was known as South Borough. Four boroughs formed the settlement originally and all near Tonbridge Castle. The modern town developed thanks to the iron industry. Furnaces were powered by utilising local streams, Modest Corner and Southborough Borne, in the 16th century. Gunpowder manufacture was a related trade during the 1770s and had a positive economic influence (as seen by the name of Powder Mill Lane). Other traes also flourished such as transport, textiles and agriculture. Today, there are diverse industries, such as on the Holden Estate.

Southborough’s residents have an active interest in local arts and culture. The Royal Victoria Hall Theatre, facing demolition, has held a particular affection, which was originally built to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, opening in 1900. The building was the first ever Municipal Theatre in England. However, the theatre faces closure following an announcement by the owners in 2015. Even so, residents in Southborough are not prepared to let their beloved theatre disappear without a legal fight. A campaign has been launched to save the building, which has seen thousands of supporters signing a petition that was handed to Southborough Town Council. It is now a waiting game to see what the outcome will be and whether this delightful building, which has brought so much happiness to so many people with performances throughout the years, can be saved.

Competent Person Registration Scheme - HETAS

The installation, replacement or any alteration to the position of a solid fuel combustion appliance (wood burning stove) is subject by law to building regulations. Competent person schemes were introduced by the Government in 2002 to allow individuals to self-certify that their work complies with these regulations; as an efficient alternative to notifying the local authority or using an approved inspector. I am part of such a scheme - see below - which gives customers reassurance that my work is legally compliant.

HETAS is the official body recognised by the Government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services including the registration of competent installers and servicing businesses. To achieve this objective, HETAS operates a registration scheme that supports installers and businesses involved in this area to work safely, efficiently and within the various regulations which apply to the work involved.

TLC Liners and Stoves is HETAS registered and, after commissioning your wood burning stove, a certificate will be issued.
