Maidstone is a key town located in the county of Kent. Famous for the River Medway, which wends through the town centre, Maidstone played a key role in promoting trade using the waterway, with trade being carried to other places via the Thames Estuary, ferrying the agricultural goods produced by the garden of England as Kent was once known. Historians debate the origins of the name Maidstone, but the modern name Maydenstan was recorded in 1396 with ‘Maidstone’ noted in 1610. It is thought there is a connection etymologically with the river’s stones, once used for washing clothes. In any case, Maidstone today is a thriving, outward looking community where visitors can always be assured of a warm welcome.
Shopping facilities in Maidstone are the envy of other towns and villages. The town is named within the best five shipping sites in the South East and in the 50 highest rated in the country. It is estimated that a million sq ft in retail floor space can be found in Maidstone itself. Two major shopping centres in particular provide and encourage this interest in retail: Fremlin Walk and The Mall. Shops in both sites are diverse in the products and services offered. There is also a multi-entertainment site known as Lockmeadow Centre, in the market square, which contains an array of restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs alongside an impressive cinema.
Competent Person Registration Scheme - HETAS
The installation, replacement or any alteration to the position of a solid fuel combustion appliance (wood burning stove) is subject by law to building regulations. Competent person schemes were introduced by the Government in 2002 to allow individuals to self-certify that their work complies with these regulations; as an efficient alternative to notifying the local authority or using an approved inspector. I am part of such a scheme - see below - which gives customers reassurance that my work is legally compliant.
HETAS is the official body recognised by the Government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services including the registration of competent installers and servicing businesses. To achieve this objective, HETAS operates a registration scheme that supports installers and businesses involved in this area to work safely, efficiently and within the various regulations which apply to the work involved.
TLC Liners and Stoves is HETAS registered and, after commissioning your wood burning stove, a certificate will be issued.
