Paddock Wood is a lovely little town, also a civil parish, which is in Tunbridge Wells Borough in Kent. It is located only 8 miles from Maidstone and has a history of hop growing, a large industry for the county. The main shopping street is known as Commercial Road, and the Paddock Wood Railway Station is north east at the end of the road. The commercial area itself contains the usual mix of shops, banks, cafes, take-aways and restaurants. Maidstone Road is the other main road in the town, which leads to and from the outside world, to Matfield and East Peckham. A lot of trade is done at Eldon Industrial Estate as well as at Paddock Wood Distribution Centre and Transfesa Road. Paddock Wood is a busy, friendly town with lots to offer both residents and visitors. An interesting historial literary snippet is the fact that Paddock Wood Railway Station is referenced within the story of Charles Dickens’ Dombey and Son, in chapter 55 of the story.
Paddock Wood has three levels of local government to adminster the local area: parish, borough and also county. Each authority has different levels of responsibilities for the upkeep of Paddock Wood in different areas ranging from the care of leisure facilities, to waste collection to roads – depending on the council as appropriate. Paddock Wood Town Council is the immediate authority. Tunbridge Wells Borough Council has two councillors for the area: Paddock Wood West and Paddock Wood East. Kent County Council is the upper authority for the civil parish and town, as part of Tunbridge Wells Rural.
Competent Person Registration Scheme - HETAS
The installation, replacement or any alteration to the position of a solid fuel combustion appliance (wood burning stove) is subject by law to building regulations. Competent person schemes were introduced by the Government in 2002 to allow individuals to self-certify that their work complies with these regulations; as an efficient alternative to notifying the local authority or using an approved inspector. I am part of such a scheme - see below - which gives customers reassurance that my work is legally compliant.
HETAS is the official body recognised by the Government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services including the registration of competent installers and servicing businesses. To achieve this objective, HETAS operates a registration scheme that supports installers and businesses involved in this area to work safely, efficiently and within the various regulations which apply to the work involved.
TLC Liners and Stoves is HETAS registered and, after commissioning your wood burning stove, a certificate will be issued.
